In this three part series, I examined the history and the role of education standards in the U.S. and in Missouri. Missouri’s Department of Elementary and Secondary Education adopted the Common Core State Standards in 2010 and local school districts worked over the next few years to implement them.
As was the case in several other states that adopted the standards, they became more controversial over time as several parents, politicians and educators began to worry if the state was abandoning the principles of local control of schools.
Through the lens of local educators, we examine the pros and cons of implementing Common Core in Missouri and the controversy that ultimately lead politicians to throw the standards out. Click Here to Read More
